Once upon a time, I almost fell into a hole somewhat like this. (though at the same time, rather un-like) I’m and grateful beyond words that I didn’t open my mouth until I could *see* the great gaping hole in the ground and nav’ed my way around it.

My upstairs neighbors, it seems, had some problems paying the rent for the last few months, and have decamped with haste. My landlord is tromping up and downstairs now removing their worldly belongings from the building. It’s a loud and bangity bumpity process, and the cats are not at all amused.
