Anyone wanna explain this to me?

So, Goldman and Morgan Stanley are re-inventing themselves as retail banks, as that is where the money is.

Deposit-banking is king right now,” said David Hendler, an analyst at CreditSights Inc. in New York. “It’s the only meaningful critical-mass way to make money”
Bloomberg

This makes sense, except for the part where they’re going to get consumers (y’know - people like me) to trust them with all or some of their life savings. Their recent track record being so stellar when it comes to loosing money they have been given by investors, I shudder to think what they’ll manage to do with money they’re holding in trust for Joe average guy on the street.

President Bartlet speaks out

We went to war against the wrong country, Osama bin Laden just celebrated his seventh anniversary of not being caught either dead or alive, my family’s less safe than it was eight years ago, we’ve lost trillions of dollars, millions of jobs, thousands of lives and we lost an entire city due to bad weather. So, you know … I’m a little angry

Look… a war we’re *not* in

Georgia: We broke away from Russia a while back. Yay us!
Russia: Still impressed with that, are you?
USA: See? Democracy prevails. Georgia is good.
Georgia: *sucks up to Washington*
Ajara: We’re part of Georgia. We think that sucks. We’re gonna break away too.
Georgia: GRRR
Ajara: Er, maybe not.
South Ossetia (SO): We’re part of Georgia. We think that sucks. We’re gonna break away too.
Georgia: GRRR
SO: Russia, some help here?
Russia: Sure, we’ll send in some peacekeepers to keep the Georgians off your backs.
SO: YAY - freedom now!
Georgia: Allright, we’re cool. Here’s a nice shiny peace agreement.
SO, USA: YAY - go team democracy!
Georgia: Just kidding… *invades*
Russia: Oh Georgia, remember how proud you were about that break up?
Georgia: err….
Russia: *kicks Georgia’s ass*
Georgia: RUN AWAY!! Help us USA!
USA: *whistles and looks away*
SO: Thanks Russia! We’re free now!
Russia: Yeah, about that….
USA: Maybe eroding the rule of international law wasn’t such a good idea.

It takes less than a generation for history to repeat itself

When I was in high school, and it wasn’t *that* long ago, I remember watching footage from Bosnia, and wishing desperately that I was old enough to join the peace corps, so I could get out into the world and… make things better somehow.

Well it’s happening again.

I just hate this stupid world sometimes.
