Oh the things one finds on NPR - like Blitzkrieg Bop performed on the steel drums.
Why didn’t anyone tell me that the Brian Setzer Orchestra did a jazzified version of The Nutcracker? This is *perfect* working music!
I find some really fun music…. like Frou Frou covering Bonnie Tyler. (Yes, I do live under a rock sometimes.) But it’s fun to see my childhood made all new and shiny.
And speaking of all new and shiny… I was in *tears* watching the Narnia trailer. ‘Cause hey, I’ve only been waiting for this since I was seven.
Later on the agenda, digitizing some of my old tapes. I’m starting with the faire music (half the bands no longer even *exist* now) and my much larger than I remember it Clannad collection. When I get truly bored I’ll dive into the filk and showtunes.
So, I’m enjoying my first real day off in three months, and what do I do? I clean the house. Ok, I *did* sleep in (and boy did that feel good), but I’ve spent the day sweeping, scrubbing, and doing laundry. Of course, the apartment is just about fit to live in again, and that’s no bad thing.
So now I’m debating weather I want to go out dancing or stay in and rent movies. Which is perfectly *crazy* - I should be resting and doing something that will help build up my energy levels (like curling up with a nice movie), not go out and spend three days worth of energy throwing myself around a dance floor.
And it’s all thanks to popping in some Zeromancer and Bruderschaft tracks. Sheesh.
Norah Jones - she has a voice like Billie Holiday if Billie was alive today and singing something that fell between Jazz and Country and something else…. and she’s only 22. Did I mention that she’s also luminously beautiful?
She was interviewed on NPR this afternoon as I was driving home, and I actually pulled over so I could write her name down. Finally, a CD I can feel justified in actually *buying*.
Currently listening to White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane and King Henry by Steeleye Span. Yes, it is a very wierd combo. But it’s making my toes tap and keeping me from killing people. That’s a good thing, right?
