(I’ve bitched about this before. Feel free to skip if you’ve seen this grumble from me before.)
So, ok – I understand that some few webcomic artists refuse to add an RSS feed to their sitrs, for fear that syndication = theft. (or perhaps they think it’s 1999). Anyway, I find it arrogant and dumb. They’re assuming that their site is SO good that I’ll remember to check it just to see if anything new’s been added. Or that I use my in-browser bookmarks. Ya right. If Warren Ellis has an updates feed (and he does), it’s good enough for you too.
However, if for whatever silly reason you really do have a personal animus against RSS feeds, ok. You don’t absolutely need one – you can set up an LJ account just for update notifications, and manually let us know about them, or you can get a twitter account and tweet when you update. (All the halfway savvy webcomics people are doing this anyway, along WITH having newsfeeds and LJ user hubs and occasional con-trips and whatnot, because the whole point is to gain a readership and get that readership to interact with you and eachother, right?)
Anything that lets me know there’s new content is ok, but I swear to god, your comic really isn’t so great that I’m going to load your site every day on the chance that there’s something new. This means you loose eyeballs, and those ads I know you have on your site don’t get seen.
No, I have no idea what some of these chuckleheads are thinking.
